Community takeaways
- To get the color you want, it helps to bring in a few photos to your appointment.
- A good stylist may explain why a certain photo inspiration will or will not work for your specific hair type.
- For expert color, consider a stylist who is also a color educator.
- Communicate that you want a 'subtle' and 'lived in' result to avoid looking like a 'highlighter'.

If it opened on Market Street, I've been.

She's a L'Oreal color educator so she really knows her stuff. She listened to exactly what I wanted for my balayage and the result was so natural. They are on Waterway Ave. https://visitparlourinthewoods.com/

For my last appointment, I brought in a few photos and she actually talked me through why one of them wouldn't work for my hair type, which I really appreciated. She really listens and the color came out perfect, very lived-in like you want.
Ex-Chicagoan. Yes, I know about the humidity.

Retired. Walking the paths since the paths were dirt.

I ended up at Parlour in the Woods after a friend recommended them and honestly Laura really does take the time to talk through what you want. She showed me swatches and explained why certain tones would blend better with my base. It's not cheap but I'd rather pay more once than fix a disaster twice.

When I showed her inspiration photos she pointed out the undertones and explained what would actually work with my natural color. No orange, no brassy, just really natural dimension. Made me feel heard instead of just nodding and doing whatever.
