• Township paying Houston to block annexation: is it worth the cost?

  I agree completely Dave. I had lunch at Tommy Bahama today and watched the Town Center crowd, and the thought of Houston taking over municipal control here gives me full anxiety. Our clean streets, well-maintained landscaping, and top tier emergency services are a 10 out of 10 right now. Paying to maintain our township status and block annexation is worth whatever millions it takes so we do not end up absorbed.

• John Cooper varsity basketball team this season

  I am absolutely obsessed with high school basketball season! A friend and I grabbed dinner near Town Center first and then popped over to check out the vibe at the Cooper gym. The student section energy was a solid 9/10, so fun and loud. The highlight reels online do not even do the atmosphere justice when the Dragons get a fast break going.

  Amrina at Waterway Square is the absolute best for this. Their wagyu burger is only on the happy hour menu, so you cannot even order it during regular dinner service.

  If you want something genuinely creative, head straight to Fielding's Wood Grill on Research Forest Drive. Their Bloody Mary and mimosa flights are unmatched, and the kitchen actually puts real thought into creative takes on brunch classics instead of just dumping cold eggs on a plate.

  If you want a real sit-down burger, head over to Fielding's Wood Grill on Research Forest Dr in Shenandoah. They cook their custom grind of 44 Ranch beef right over a wood grill, and their house-cured bacon is fantastic.

  A drive-thru for visiting in-laws? Absolutely not. Take them to Lama Mediterranean Cuisine in Shenandoah. It is family-owned and halal, and their gyro, falafel, stuffed grape leaves, and baklava are wonderful for a nice sit-down meal.

  If you want a high-end experience, Amrina at 3 Waterway Square Place is fantastic. Everyone talks about dinner, but their happy hour wagyu burger is a great local secret, and brunch has a jackfruit Benedict Florentine. For a standard sit-down meal, head to Palette Indian Kitchen on Rayford Road in Spring and get the Goan shrimp curry with Peshwari naan.

  MiMi Garden on Research Forest has proper soup dumplings. Get those and an order of the pan-fried pork dumplings. There is also a second location over on Sawdust if that is closer to you.

  If broth quality is the main priority, EAD Vietnamese Restaurant in Shenandoah off I-45 S is the clear choice. It is an offshoot of Huynh down in Houston. The dining room is large and bright, and beyond the pho, their chicken wonton is far better than typical.

  Charm Kitchen & Bar over at 4223 Research Forest Dr is hands down the best option in town. Order the khao soi or the pad thai. The flavor profiles are on another level compared to standard suburban Thai spots.

  If you ever head west toward Tomball, Tejas Chocolate & Barbecue on North Elm Street is worth the trip. If you go on a Thursday, their house-made pastrami is out of this world. And Carl mentioned Charm Taphouse off 1488 in Conroe, which blends Central Texas BBQ with upscale Thai. Their smokehouse burger is honestly one of the best around.
