My daughter is visiting later this month and specifically requested dim sum style xiaolongbao, but I would prefer not to drive clear down to Chinatown if we can avoid it. Is there anywhere local that actually makes them properly?

If it opened on Market Street, I've been.
- Oct 1, 2026, 5:27 PM#3MiMi Garden is fine, but if you want solid family-run Shanghai food without paying Woodlands rent prices, Noodle Kitchen on Kuykendahl in Spring is the spot. They do hand-pulled noodles and great soup dumplings. Just be patient because the staff gets swamped on busy nights.
Cheaper taxes, longer drive.

This has been covered. Twice.
- Oct 1, 2026, 5:46 PM#5Thank you for the quick responses. For MiMi Garden, is the Research Forest location identical in menu quality to Sawdust, or should I stick to Research Forest? Also good to know about the potential wait at Noodle Kitchen.

- Oct 1, 2026, 5:58 PM#6I live right near the Research Forest location of MiMi Garden and we go pretty regularly. The soup dumplings there are consistently good, and their beef noodle soup is another staple item you should add to the table if you go. I haven't noticed any drop in quality between there and Sawdust. Noodle Kitchen down on Kuykendahl is definitely worth the short trip into Spring if you appreciate hand-pulled noodles, though like Carl said, service can slow down when they hit peak dinner hours since it is a small family operation. Either way, saving a trip to Bellaire is a huge win for north side dining.
2004 transplant. Still call it Randalls.
- Oct 1, 2026, 6:06 PM#7MiMi Garden beef noodle soup hits the spot when it gets cooler out.
Retired. Walking the paths since the paths were dirt.
- Oct 1, 2026, 6:19 PM#8MiMi Garden sounds like the place to start. Soup dumplings are exactly what I've been looking for since moving here.
Ex-Chicagoan. Yes, I know about the humidity.
- Oct 7, 2026, 9:16 PM#9I've tried both MiMi Garden locations and honestly they're pretty much the same. The Research Forest one might be slightly faster because it has more tables, but the food is just as good at Sawdust. If your daughter is really into XLB I'd also second the Noodle Kitchen suggestion since they make everything in-house, you can watch them pull the noodles through the kitchen window.
- Oct 10, 2026, 3:55 AM#10We tried MiMi Garden (Research Forest) a few weeks back when my wife had a dumpling craving and the soup dumplings were legit - good broth inside and they held together properly (no leaking disasters on the spoon). Ended up ordering a second round because the first plate disappeared fast. The parking lot gets packed during weekend lunch so maybe go a little off-peak if you can.
