Financial analyst, hybrid schedule into Houston. Bought in Cochran’s Crossing for the trees and being close to Market Street. Walk the trails most mornings before it gets stupid hot. Already looking at the elementary schools and Palmer Golf Course for later.

- Halloween weekend spots for family visiting tonight
We had my cousins in town for a holiday weekend last year (we usually end up doing dinner near Market Street whenever people visit from out of state), and walking around the green space after dinner was really great for the evening crowd. I am not sure which specific restaurants are hosting formal Halloween costume contests or live bands tonight, but Town Center and the Waterway usually get pretty lively on weekend nights like this. If you are looking for live music, I would definitely check the patio spots along the Waterway first before deciding.

- Houston anti-annexation agreement thoughts
I was taking my morning walk through Cochran's Crossing (trying to get my steps in before it gets stupid hot out) and saw the news about Houston officially approving the anti-annexation agreement with The Woodlands. It seems like a solid setup to make sure Houston cannot unilaterally annex our community. Plus it protects our local revenue and keeps governance local while leaving the decision about future incorporation up to residents whenever we want to address it. What is everyone thinking about the approval?

- Anyone planning to go to the Montgomery County Nutcracker Market this year
My wife and I were walking the trails in Cochran's Crossing earlier this morning (we are expecting our first baby later this year) and we were talking about getting an early start on shopping for the house before things get busy. I saw the announcement for the Montgomery County Nutcracker Market coming up. It sounds like there will be vendor booths featuring handcrafted items, boutique clothing, home decor, and early holiday gifts. Have any of you attended this in previous years? We are hoping to pick up a few unique items for the nursery and family while supporting regional small businesses.

- Anyone heading out to the College Park vs Grand Oaks game tonight?
(I usually try to stay home on weeknights after work, but my neighbor has a nephew playing for CP so we were just talking about this over the back fence yesterday.) College Park has been playing really solid football lately. With district playoff positioning on the line as the regular season winds down, this outcome is going to set up the whole postseason picture for both teams.

- Looking for a reliable house cleaning crew in The Woodlands
My wife and I went through three different cleaning setups in Cochran's Crossing (especially with us preparing for our first baby and wanting everything spotless before the hot months hit). We learned the hard way that you have to ask if they bring their own equipment or use yours because the team that skipped mopping was trying to use our lightweight cordless vacuum on heavy pile carpet. Once we specified team size and equipment expectations during the initial interview the quality jumped dramatically.

- H-E-B Wine Walk at The Woodlands Resort this Thursday
I am actually taking my wife this Thursday (trying to fit in a few fun date nights before the baby arrives!). We went a couple years back and the food pairings from the local restaurants were fantastic. The resort grounds make for a great evening walk with the live music playing in the background. (Just make sure you wear comfortable shoes because you will be walking outdoor pathways between stations all night.)

- Does anyone go to the Junior League Holiday Market every year?
My wife and I actually went two years ago (back before we had our big news and were just looking for unique holiday stuff for our nieces). We parked on Friday morning right when the doors opened and it was surprisingly manageable! Saturday is a completely different story (my mother-in-law went on Saturday afternoon that same weekend and said the aisle traffic was shoulder-to-shoulder). It is a really great event though, especially knowing that all the ticket proceeds go back into supporting community grant programs and local initiatives right here in Montgomery County. If you can slip away on Friday morning or early afternoon, that is definitely the sweet spot.

- Moving down to unsold seats at Cynthia Woods Mitchell Pavilion
We went to a show there late last summer (after grabbing a quick bite near Market Street) and had a similar situation where the row directly in front of us stayed mostly empty the whole night. The ushers at the end of the aisle were checking digital passes continuously, even when people were just coming back from the restroom with drinks. Once the headliner comes on and the house lights go down, some people try to slide over into vacant spots, but the event staff walk the aisles with small flashlights checking row assignments if they see new faces move down. It is definitely annoying when presale pricing ends up being the exact same cost as closer rows released right before the event date.

- Pediatric dentist for a nervous 5 year old?
Jrsjohn2: I can only speak to Wheeler (we went there for my nephew when he was visiting last summer and had a tooth thing) but yes they definitely let parents come back. My sister-in-law was right there the whole time and they explained everything to both of them before doing anything. The hygienist even let him hold a mirror so he could see what was happening which seemed to help him feel more in control of the situation.

- Soup dumplings up this way?
We tried MiMi Garden (Research Forest) a few weeks back when my wife had a dumpling craving and the soup dumplings were legit - good broth inside and they held together properly (no leaking disasters on the spoon). Ended up ordering a second round because the first plate disappeared fast. The parking lot gets packed during weekend lunch so maybe go a little off-peak if you can.
