  • The Woodlands Dental Group: This practice has been in business for over 30 years, has multiple dentists making appointments easy to get, and is sensitive to patients with anxiety. They also have an orthodontist in the same office. (post #3)

Community takeaways

  • For a child with dental anxiety, look for a practice known for its calm environment.
  • Ask a potential new dentist if parents are allowed to accompany their children during the appointment, as this can be a major source of fear.
  • Some larger dental groups have multiple dentists, which can make scheduling appointments easier.
  • A practice with an in house orthodontist can be a convenient option.

Y'all, my youngest had a really bad experience at a dentist before we moved and now she panics at the word. She's 5. Does anyone have a pediatric dentist that is really, REALLY good with scared kids?

Wheeler Pediatric Dentistry on Sterling Ridge Dr. is wonderful. Dr. Wheeler is so calm. My son had a total meltdown on the way there and by the end of the appointment he was totally fine. They are also super efficient, we never have to wait long.

We take our whole family to The Woodlands Dental Group over on Medical Plaza Dr. They have been in business for over 30 years. They have a bunch of dentists so it's easy to get an appointment, and they are really sensitive to patients with anxiety. They were fantastic with my youngest when he was scared. It's nice that they have an orthodontist in the same office too. https://www.thewoodlandsdentalgroup.com/

I'll second the recommendation for Wheeler Pediatric. The whole environment is just so calm and comfortable for children. From the front desk to the hygienists, everyone is professional and kind. Their number is (281) 681-9880 if you need it.

"Section 4.2 is pretty clear on this."

This helps so much, thank you all. One more question for those of you who recommended a place... do they let you go back with your child? That was a big part of the problem at our last dentist and what my daughter is most afraid of.

Jrsjohn2: I can only speak to Wheeler (we went there for my nephew when he was visiting last summer and had a tooth thing) but yes they definitely let parents come back. My sister-in-law was right there the whole time and they explained everything to both of them before doing anything. The hygienist even let him hold a mirror so he could see what was happening which seemed to help him feel more in control of the situation.

We go to Wheeler and yeah they absolutely let you stay (I basically had to be in the chair with my daughter the first visit because she wouldn't let go of me). Dr. Wheeler talked to her like she was a person not just a little kid which somehow made a huge difference. They also have these cool sunglasses the kids can wear during the exam so the light isn't so scary.
