We moved to Woodforest earlier this year so I am still trying to catch up on all the local high school sports rivalries. I saw that Grand Oaks held off a late comeback from Oak Ridge to win the Battle of the Oaks again. Did anyone here make it out to the game? How are the Grizzlies and War Eagles looking for the rest of the season?

That win marks three straight Battle of the Oaks titles for Grand Oaks now. Oak Ridge made it interesting late in the fourth quarter, but Grand Oaks controlled the line of scrimmage when they needed to secure the victory. From a pure trend perspective, Grand Oaks has really taken control of that specific matchup over the last three years.

I was having a couple IPAs over in the area earlier in the week and heard a bunch of folks talking about this matchup. High school football down here is no joke. The atmosphere at the stadium for these cross-town games is killer, even if you are just there for the crowd energy and stadium nachos.

I do not follow football too closely, but I always listen for the marching bands! The Grand Oaks band program has grown so much over the past few years, and their halftime performance on Friday was wonderfully executed. The sound discipline in their brass section is very impressive for high school musicians.

Sorry if this has been asked before, we just relocated from Ohio to Sterling Ridge this summer and I am still trying to figure out which high schools belong to which areas! Is Grand Oaks in Conroe ISD or a different district? The games sound like so much fun, my middle schooler is wanting to go to one soon!

    New here, be nice

Thanks for the replies everyone! Dani, I had the exact same question when we moved here, it takes a while to get all the school boundaries straight. Does anyone know if tickets for these Friday night rivalries usually sell out ahead of time online or can you still buy them at the gate?

Ran past the sports complex early Saturday morning. Cleaned up well after the Friday crowd. Grand Oaks conditioning showed on the field in that fourth quarter. They did not look gassed when Oak Ridge made that late push.

Back when I was a boy there wasnt any Grand Oaks high school out that way it was all timber and creek bottoms where we hunted feral hogs and Oak Ridge was the only game in town on the east side of the highway and now yall got traffic stacked up all along 242 every Friday night just to watch football.

Been here since it was all pines.

If you are driving anywhere near 242 or Birnham Woods on a game night, add twenty minutes to your trip minimum. I had a job wrapped up off Riley Fuzzel around five on Friday and barely cleared the intersection before the stadium traffic hit. Plan ahead if you are going to these games.

Nate, to answer your ticket question, Conroe ISD handles almost all varsity athletics ticketing through their online portal now. Buying online beforehand saves you the headache of waiting at the gate, especially for high-attendance games like the Battle of the Oaks.
