- Looking for recommendations for a local vet for a large rescue dog
My dog is a big guy too and the biggest thing I learned was finding a vet where the techs actually know how to handle large dogs without getting intimidated. Our guy is super sweet but he gets excited and wants to lean all 85 pounds of himself on everyone. You want a team that smiles when a big dog walks in the door instead of looking nervous. Definitely ask to do a quick walk-through or meet-and-greet first.

- Last chance for the Annette Palmer exhibit at The Woodlands Arts Council?
Hank is spot on about the parking. I rolled through over the weekend after grabbing a pint nearby, and the area was pretty busy. Really cool artwork though. It is awesome seeing local artists get featured like this. Definitely worth a quick walkthrough before they wrap up the show.

- Battle of the Oaks game - Grand Oaks vs Oak Ridge
I was having a couple IPAs over in the area earlier in the week and heard a bunch of folks talking about this matchup. High school football down here is no joke. The atmosphere at the stadium for these cross-town games is killer, even if you are just there for the crowd energy and stadium nachos.

- Township paying Houston to block annexation: is it worth the cost?
I was sitting over at Local Pour earlier chatting with a neighbor about this exact news. Honestly, paying Houston to stay on their side of the county line is the best money this Township spends. Can you imagine Houston trying to manage our pathways or greenbelts? It would be a complete mess. Paying millions to keep our local independence and maintain our own standards is worth every single cent in my book.

- Anyone planning to take their family to Boni's Nutcracker this year?
We went a couple of times back when my nieces were dancing in it. It is a really good production! My personal move for the Saturday evening performance was always grabbing a heavy winter stout at a taproom nearby beforehand. Nothing sets the holiday mood quite like a solid local craft beer before sitting through two hours of ballet.

- Treaty Oak Revival at the Pavilion Nov 13 with 49 Winchester
Treaty Oak Revival and 49 Winchester are co-headlining the Pavilion Friday Nov 13, West Texas Degenerate Tour, with Gannon Fremin & CCREV opening. Gates 6, show 7. Heads up: clear bags only, max 12x12, and there are no lawn chair rentals for this one. Tickets on Ticketmaster. Lawn or seats? I feel like this crowd is going to be standing the whole time anyway.

- Weekend plans for Oct 5-11
Always good to step away from the desk for a bit! I am planning to hit a few outdoor patio spots and local taprooms over that October 5th to 11th stretch. A lot of the local spots start putting on fall community events, live music, and food pop-ups once the October weather cools off. If you want family-friendly options, the places with large lawn games and open seating are usually a hit on a Saturday afternoon.

- Lone Star College lower tax rate and tax bills
I read about the board approving that lower rate while grabbing a pint after work the other night. Any reduction sounds great on paper, and hey, if it saves me twenty bucks that is a pint of local double IPA and a pretzel. But realistic Dave says the county appraisal district will just slide that valuation slider right up to take it back.

- Craving a good chicken fried steak tonight
I second The Republic Grille. My son is a picky eater but he always cleans his plate when we get the chicken fried steak there.
