Shop local, file on time.

Retired. Walking the paths since the paths were dirt.
- Sep 29, 2026, 1:37 PM#3Republic Grille is fine, but if you want something huge that will not cost as much, Willie's Grill and Icehouse is a better deal. It is well seasoned and plenty of food for the price.
Cheaper taxes, longer drive.
- Sep 29, 2026, 1:53 PM#4Willie's is fine for a quick casual weeknight, but if I am sitting down for chicken fried steak, State Fare over on Lake Woodlands does a really nice elevated version. Plus their fresh-cut fries are worth it.
If it opened on Market Street, I've been.
- Sep 29, 2026, 2:03 PM#5Thanks everyone. Pete, is that jalapeño corn pretty spicy? My husband usually prefers mild sides so I might have to steal it for myself if we head to Panther Creek.
Shop local, file on time.
- Sep 29, 2026, 2:14 PM#6We just moved here recently and tried Mia's Table over in Shenandoah off I-45. The chicken fried steak there was wonderful!
Ex-Chicagoan. Yes, I know about the humidity.
- Sep 29, 2026, 2:25 PM#7Republic Grille is definitely a staple for chicken fried steak in the area, especially since they have locations in Panther Creek, FM 2978, and Rayford Road. The jalapeño corn has a little kick to it, Sara, but it is not overwhelming at all. If someone in your party ends up not wanting steak, their Chicken Woodlands is also solid. Another good spot on Sawdust Road is The Omega Grill if you are down on the south side of town.
2004 transplant. Still call it Randalls.

Native plants or nothing.
- Oct 8, 2026, 12:40 PM#11My daughter and I split the chicken fried steak at Willie's a few weeks ago after the park and it was huge, definitely enough for two. The gravy was really good and not too salty which I appreciated after being up all night at the hospital.
