Conversation overview
A resident needed a recommendation for a Cajun restaurant with good gumbo or étouffée to take visiting family. Neighbors identified Schilleci's New Orleans Kitchen as the top choice for an authentic experience, with Babin's Seafood House mentioned as a strong alternative with generous portions.
Top recommendation: Schilleci's New Orleans Kitchen
- It provides an authentic experience with details like imported Gambino's bread, Community Coffee, Abita beer, and Blue Plate mayo.
- Neighbors recommend specific dishes like seafood gumbo, crawfish étouffée, shrimp creole, and red beans and rice.
- The dining experience is considered great for out of town guests, with a cozy atmosphere and nice outdoor seating.
- It has been voted Best of The Woodlands since 2010.
Other options neighbors mentioned
- Babin's Seafood House: It is recommended for its generous portions and crawfish bisque, and has a New Orleans themed dining room. (post #3)
- Rotolo's Craft & Crust: This restaurant is a New Orleans import suggested for a solid muffuletta without needing a full sit down service. (post #4)
Community takeaways
- Schilleci's is a smaller restaurant, so planning ahead to get a table is recommended.
- Babin's Seafood House gets busy around 6 PM, so arriving early is suggested to avoid a wait.
- The muffuletta at Rotolo's Craft & Crust is large and can be shared.
- Crawfish bisque at Babin's is a good option when live crawfish are not in season.
- For a more casual meal, Rotolo's is a good choice if some people want Cajun food while others want pizza.

Obviously fresh crawfish season is way off right now in October, so looking for places that do great dark roux gumbo or solid year-round Cajun staples. Any local recommendations?

It is cozy, but they bring in real Gambino's bread and Community Coffee straight from Louisiana. Get the seafood gumbo and finish with the bread pudding. They have been voted Best of The Woodlands since opening back in 2010 for good reason.
If it opened on Market Street, I've been.

The New Orleans themed dining room is nice, and their crawfish bisque hits the spot when you cannot get live crawfish this time of year.
Cheaper taxes, longer drive.
- Sep 29, 2026, 5:40 PM#4Use the search bar next time, this question comes up every fall. But if you just want a solid muffuletta without a full sit-down service, Rotolo's Craft & Crust on Gosling in Spring is actually a New Orleans import. Most people go for pizza, but the muffuletta is great.
This has been covered. Twice.
- Sep 29, 2026, 5:49 PM#5Thanks for the quick suggestions! I did not realize Rotolo's had a muffuletta like that, I always assumed it was just pizza. Does Babin's fill up fast on Friday nights, or should we plan on an early arrival?

Retired. Walking the paths since the paths were dirt.
- Sep 29, 2026, 6:17 PM#7If you are bringing out-of-town guests, Schilleci's really delivers on the dining experience. Sitting out near Six Pines Drive on a nice October evening is hard to beat. My wife loves their crawfish étouffée and shrimp creole, and they even serve Abita beer and Blue Plate mayo, so the authentic details are all there. It is smaller than Babin's, so definitely plan ahead for a table, but for a special dinner with family, that is where I would take them.
2004 transplant. Still call it Randalls.
- Sep 29, 2026, 6:33 PM#8Rotolo's on Gosling is our easy weeknight stop when the kids want pizza and my husband wants Cajun. That muffuletta is huge enough to share!

- Sep 29, 2026, 6:47 PM#9Skip overcomplicating it. Red beans and rice at Schilleci's or the crawfish bisque at Babin's will get the job done. Both are dependable.
Licensed & insured. Get three bids.
- Oct 7, 2026, 4:48 AM#10If your family's coming from Louisiana they'll probably appreciate Schilleci's more for the little touches, but Babin's portions are bigger and the parking's easier up in Shenandoah. I've taken clients to both and never had complaints either way.
