• Happy hour with food that is actually worth eating?

  Pretty chill honestly. Not a sports bar vibe at all. We had a normal conversation the whole time. Also the American Griddle burger if you're hungry, I still think about it.

  Bumping this because nobody mentioned Fielding's Wood Grill. Half off their signature cocktails from 3 to 6 every day, and the bartenders there actually know what they're doing. The truffle grana fries and wagyu sliders off the Chef's Bites menu were plenty for two of us.

• Road closures for 10 for Texas race near Town Center on October 10

  Traffic around Town Center on race mornings is almost as crazy as parking for a sold-out concert at the Pavilion. If you are anywhere near the race route on October 10 during the morning event hours, expect delays along all the village connectors. I learned my lesson years ago and just stay home until the afternoon.

• Chief Dunlap retiring at Shenandoah PD

  Every time I drive home after a show at the Pavilion, there is always a Shenandoah unit watching traffic near the feeder road. Saw REO SPEEDWAGON a while back and saw three cars pulled over right near David Memorial. Hope whoever city officials appoint to take over police operations keeps those intersections clear after big events.

• Hourani's Barbershop in Grogan's Mill Village Center

  Perfect timing before concert season gets into full gear. I always try to get trimmed up before heading over to the lawn for a big show like SAMMY HAGAR or ALICE COOPER. Parking at the village center is a million times easier than dealing with the gold lot before gates open, so taking the kids to Hourani's Barbershop right in Grogan's Mill sounds like a great call.

• Woodlands Arts Council hiring a development and partnership manager

  Nonprofit folks, this one is for you. The Woodlands Arts Council is hiring a Development and Partnership Manager, full time exempt, in office here in The Woodlands. They are the group behind the Waterway Arts Festival and the Texas Fine Craft Show. You would build and manage corporate sponsorships, support grant development, handle sponsor activations at events, and represent the council with chambers and civic groups. They want three to five years in nonprofit development, sponsorship sales, grants, or relationship management. Pay is not listed. • Affordable vet recommendations for kitten tail amputation

  Actually Sam, a lot of the standard day practices up on 105 will not take surgical cases unless you are already an established patient, so calling around up there without checking their intake rules might waste her time. I paid an arm and a leg at one of those big emergency spots years ago when my cat hurt her leg right before a concert at the Pavilion (was stuck in the parking lot during SANTANA trying to sort out the bill on my phone). You are much better off looking specifically for low-cost spay and neuter clinics in Montgomery County or over near Tomball that also handle basic soft tissue procedures for non-clients. They run lean operations and do not jack up the prices with emergency facility fees. Just make sure to ask if pain meds and follow-up care are included in the quote.

  Thanks for the quick suggestions! I did not realize Rotolo's had a muffuletta like that, I always assumed it was just pizza. Does Babin's fill up fast on Friday nights, or should we plan on an early arrival?

  Needs a good Cajun spot for gumbo or étouffée around here. We have family coming in later this month and I want to figure out where to take them. Obviously fresh crawfish season is way off right now in October, so looking for places that do great dark roux gumbo or solid year-round Cajun staples. Any local recommendations?

• Barred owls hunting in the backyard greenbelt last night

  You get used to the noise real quick. We hear them all summer long over near College Park. Honestly it reminds me of sitting on the lawn at the Pavilion during COUNTING CROWS back in 2018 when a couple of owls were calling back and forth right in the trees behind the lawn seats during an acoustic song. Fantastic night, even though half the crowd wouldn't stop talking through the ballads. But yeah, barred owls are everywhere in the trees out here.

• Caterer for a graduation party, about 80 people

  We used Saveur Catering Tx for a big anniversary party and they were fantastic. Chef Alex is the real deal, the food was incredible and everyone commented on it. They are right here in The Woodlands and can handle that size group no problem. We did a mix of French and American dishes. Their website is https://www.saveurcateringtx.com/.

• Moving out of the house after 20 years. Movers?

  For the garage you mentioned, I would get a separate junk hauling company out there first. No sense paying movers to move things you're going to throw away. We used a company called Gone Junk Removal and they were super fast and reliable. Cleared out our whole garage in about an hour. Their number is (346) 966-8600.

  My daughter got engaged last month (!!) and apparently photographer is the first thing you book. She wants candid, not stiff poses. Budget matters but this is not an area to cheap out. Who have you used for weddings around here?

• House cleaner recommendations (recurring, every other week)

  We tried to get on Maids and Moore's schedule but they were booked for our day, so we ended up with MaidPro The Woodlands and have been really happy. They employ their cleaners directly, so we get the same person most of the time, which is what you were looking for. They have a 49 Point Checklist they follow. • Brad Paisley at the Pavilion October 8, anybody going

  7:30 is a much friendlier start than the 6:30 the Mumford show has the week before. You can actually get home from work, change and go. Country crowd on the lawn means people talking through the slow ones, which I have opinions about, but I will be there.
