We recently closed on our house in Indian Springs, where we paid roughly a 12 percent lot premium specifically for direct greenbelt access. Last night around 2:00 AM, we had several barred owls right in our backyard. They were hunting and extremely vocal, calling back and forth to each other across the canopy for over an hour. Is having multiple vocal owls hunting right behind the house a regular occurrence across the village greenbelts, or is this just an occasional thing? Run your own numbers on greenbelt property value, but the noise level was definitely unexpected.

You get used to the noise real quick. We hear them all summer long over near College Park. Honestly it reminds me of sitting on the lawn at the Pavilion during COUNTING CROWS back in 2018 when a couple of owls were calling back and forth right in the trees behind the lawn seats during an acoustic song. Fantastic night, even though half the crowd wouldn't stop talking through the ballads. But yeah, barred owls are everywhere in the trees out here.

You paid a twelve percent lot premium just to listen to birds yell at each other at two in the morning? (Up here in Conroe we get the exact same barred owls without paying Woodlands MUD rates for the privilege, just saying.) In all seriousness though, barred owls are everywhere along the creek beds and greenbelts. They hunt rats, mice, and squirrels. Consider it free pest control.

Must be nice to be awake at 2 AM listening to nature. Took me 78 minutes to get from the Energy Corridor back to Grogan's Mill yesterday because traffic backed up past Spring Cypress on I-45. The owls are harmless and they keep the roof rats down. Just keep your small pets inside at night.

Welcome to the area, friend! Yes sir, barred owls are super active around here, especially if your yard backs up to the greenbelt trails. Our youth soccer teams hear them calling back and forth during late evening practices all the time. They sound just like they are asking who cooks for you. Take it as a big win for natural pest management in your yard!

    Hydrate. Then hydrate again.
