History

Grogan's Mill is where The Woodlands began. It opened on the same day as the community's grand opening in 1974, and fewer than 40 families lived there at first, mostly in the Settler's Corner neighborhood. The village takes its name from the Grogan-Cochran Lumber Company, the last sawmill to operate on the land. Locals still call it the gateway to The Woodlands.

Homes

This is the most established village and the most affordable entry point, with a median sale price around $345,500. Lots tend to be larger and more heavily wooded than in newer villages, and recent sales have included parcels well over an acre. Grogan's Point, built in 1982, was one of The Woodlands' first estate neighborhoods and became the model for later luxury enclaves like West Isle, The Cove and Carlton Woods.

Amenities

The village is home to The Woodlands Resort, three golf courses including The Oaks and Panther Trail, and Tamarac and Sawmill parks. The Grogan's Mill Village Center on Buckthorne Place has long-time local favorites like Phat Eatery and Brothers Pizza Express.

What residents talk about

Flooding and drainage come up often, especially in Grogan's Point, which sits between Spring Creek and Panther Creek and has faced repeated flood challenges. Aging housing stock and renovation projects are also common topics, which makes RDRC permitting a frequent discussion here.
