Overview

Shenandoah is a small city wedged between The Woodlands and Oak Ridge North along I-45. When it incorporated in 1974, its claimed boundaries overlapped much of The Woodlands, and the dispute was settled around 1976 with boundary adjustments that left Shenandoah at roughly two square miles.

Economy

Shenandoah punches far above its size because of retail and medical development. Portofino Shopping Center and Metropark Square are two of the area's biggest retail centers, and the city relies heavily on sales tax, which keeps the city property tax rate low. Many popular restaurants sit inside city limits, including Gloria's, Goode Co Fish Camp and Johnny's Italian Steak House.

What residents talk about

New retail and restaurants at Metropark and Portofino, I-45 frontage road traffic, and the city's growth in medical offices.
