I wrapped up a long shift at the hospital this morning and realized I have a massive craving for a good white pizza lol. My daughter loves pizza night, but I really want a spot that does a classic white pie with real garlic and ricotta rather than just melted mozzarella on plain dough. We usually end up around Town Center or Hughes Landing when we go out for dinner. Does anyone have a go-to spot in the area that actually gets a white pizza right?

It is honestly hit or miss around here because half the spots think brushing olive oil on plain dough and tossing mozzarella on top counts as a white pie. Whenever we try a new place near Town Center or Research Forest, I always ask three things first: 1. Do you use fresh whipped ricotta or just shredded mozzarella? 2. Is roasted garlic built into the base or just sprinkled as a topping? 3. Can the crust stay crisp without getting soggy from the cheese oils? If they cannot give a straight answer on the ricotta base, we move on.

I agree that most places lazy out on white pizzas. I walk around East Shore and the Waterway with my toddler all the time, and when we pick up food nearby, I always end up asking the staff a few questions before ordering: 1. Is the white pie an actual featured specialty or just a create-your-own substitute? 2. Do they offer fresh spinach or herbs cooked into the garlic oil? 3. Do they charge extra fees to substitute a white ricotta base on a custom order? If a kitchen treats it as an afterthought, you just get greasy dough.

Most places around Town Center miss the mark. You need whole milk ricotta and plenty of garlic. A dry crust ruins it. We struggle to find a solid white pie in the central area.

Finding decent white pizza is hard enough, but trying to park anywhere near Town Center or Hughes Landing on a Friday night just to pick up a box is my actual nightmare lol. If I have to fight three suburban assault vehicles for a garage spot, that garlic crust better be life-changing. Most places around here just give you dry bread with garlic powder.

My husband loves white pizza. Most spots default to red sauce. Hard to get good garlic cream or ricotta here. We usually have to make our own at home.

I have lived in Grogan's Mill over 25 years and pizza styles here have definitely evolved lol. My adult kids always want red sauce when they visit, but I actually prefer a gentle garlic olive oil base with good cheese over heavy ricotta. It is definitely tricky finding a kitchen near Town Center that does not over-salt the cheese!

White pizza can be wonderful when executed properly. When I order dinner for client meetings or family evenings near Market Street and Town Center, I always request extra roasted garlic and ask if the kitchen can brush the crust perimeter with olive oil prior to baking. A good combination of fresh mozzarella, dollops of seasoned ricotta, and fresh herbs makes all the difference compared to a plain cheese pizza without sauce.
