I need a place that works well for a relaxed family dinner with kids, but we also want a good recommendation for a separate date night without them. Are there different spots you all recommend for those two vibes, or is there one place that handles both?

If it opened on Market Street, I've been.
- Sep 30, 2026, 1:59 PMAccepted answer#4Kokoro will put a hurt on your wallet though. Fukuda has been around forever and has very reasonable prices for fresh sushi. Plus they have hibachi if someone in the group does not eat raw fish.
Cheaper taxes, longer drive.
- Sep 30, 2026, 2:04 PM#5Thank you all for the quick responses! Is Fukuda easy to get a table at on a Friday evening, or should we plan ahead? Also curious if anyone has tried Sapporo Izakaya for family dinners.

- Sep 30, 2026, 2:16 PM#6Sapporo Izakaya is solid. We take the family there all the time.
Retired. Walking the paths since the paths were dirt.
- Sep 30, 2026, 2:31 PM#7If you want a great date night deal, check out Bloofin Sushi and Bar. Their sushi happy hour is hard to beat for quality before the evening crowd gets too heavy.
Shop local, file on time.
- Sep 30, 2026, 2:40 PM#8We split it up depending on who is joining us. For a quick fun night with the kids, Kura is great because the revolving belt keeps them occupied. If it is just my wife and me, Bloofin for happy hour or Kokoro on Waterway Ave are our main picks. Kokoro is a treat if you want to sit at the bar, order some crudos or A5 wagyu, and sample Japanese whisky, while Fukuda is our trusty backup when we want affordable rolls and hibachi under one roof.
2004 transplant. Still call it Randalls.
- Sep 30, 2026, 2:52 PM#9This gets asked constantly, but Fukuda is fine for families if you get there early, and Sapporo Izakaya is another easy family pick. Save Kokoro or Bloofin for when you do not have the kids trailing behind you.
This has been covered. Twice.

Low and slow, y'all.
- Oct 1, 2026, 8:52 AM#11Another vote for Fukuda. We went last Friday and even though they were busy we got a table pretty quickly. It's great for a last minute family dinner.
Fountain show at 7, meltdown at 7:15.

For date night I'd second Kokoro if you're willing to splurge, we sat at the bar last time and the handrolls were amazing. My kid isn't into sushi yet so we stick with the hibachi side at Fukuda lol.
- Oct 9, 2026, 6:46 PM#13Fukuda is solid for Friday family nights if you get there before the rush, like others said. Kokoro on Waterway Ave is definitely the date night choice if you want to make it special, sit at the bar and have the handrolls made in front of you. I haven't been to Sapporo Izakaya in a while but it worked fine for a casual family meal when we tried it last year.
