Honest take on switching schools mid year?

- Jul 27, 2026, 2:40 AM#1Not for my kids, asking for a friend who is relocating in the spring and trying to decide whether to move now or wait until the school year ends. Her oldest is in middle school and does not want to move at all. Anybody done a mid year switch and regretted it, or was it fine?

- Jul 27, 2026, 6:40 AM#2We did it years ago with a fifth grader. It was rough for about six weeks and then completely fine. Middle school is a harder age for it, I will not pretend otherwise.

- Jul 28, 2026, 2:40 AM#3Sports and band are what make or break it in my experience. If she can get the kid into something with a roster before the first day, the social part solves itself. Waiting until fall does not help if he shows up in August not knowing anybody either.
