Own an auto body shop on the edge of The Woodlands. Live in Alden Bridge so the drive is short. Kids in high school sports so I’m at the fields or village center after work. Know most of the insurance adjusters who work claims around here.

- Small custom woodworking project using old drawer fronts
At my auto body shop over near Alden Bridge we get people stopping by with small custom metal brackets or trim pieces all the time, and the big commercial shops will not touch tiny custom jobs because of shop minimums. It is the same with woodworking. You might want to ask around with some of the local trim carpenters or retired guys who do custom cutting boards or furniture restoration on weekends. If you supply the hardwood drawers and exact bowl measurements, someone with a decent table saw and router can knock that out in an hour.

- Has anyone looked into the expanded bachelor degree transfer programs through Lone Star College?
We actually went down to the College Park campus last month to ask about this for my oldest (he is a junior at TWHS right now and already stressing about college costs). The advisor sat us down and explained how Lone Star College System set up these specific degree tracks with five different four-year universities so the credits line up course-for-course. In the past you had to pray half your freshman electives transferred over without getting chopped, but these streamlined pathways lock in the exact coursework required for your bachelor degree field before you move over. Saves a ton of headache and keeps you from paying four-year university tuition for general education classes.

- Anyone been to the Water Lantern Festival at City Place in Spring?
That is super helpful about the parking garage (especially with how busy traffic gets down near the Exxon campus area around dusk). Quick follow-up question for anyone who has bought entry tickets: does the ticket cover the actual lantern kit or do you have to purchase all the decorating markers and stuff separately once you walk into the plaza area?

- Anyone been to the Water Lantern Festival at City Place in Spring?
My high schooler mentioned this event to me yesterday after seeing a flyer for it (she always catches these local things before I do), and I realized I have never actually been down to City Place for anything other than a quick lunch meeting. I saw the Water Lantern Festival is coming back to City Place in Spring for three days from November 20 to November 22. It looks like a fun family thing to do in the evening (and anything that gets my teenagers off their phones for two hours is a huge win in my book). Has anyone on here taken their family to it in previous years?

- Anyone been to Wit at the Woodlands comedy night at the resort?
We have been talking about going to one of those Wit at the Woodlands nights (my wife saw the announcement online a couple weeks back while planning our anniversary). Between high school sports schedules and work, getting a full evening out without taking a massive drive is a huge win. The fact that top comedians are coming directly to the resort venue makes it sound like a solid option. I am definitely leaning toward picking up tickets for the next one.

- Visit The Woodlands holiday lineup released. What events are you hitting?
(Speaking of Town Center traffic during holiday events I had three different customers come into my auto body shop last December after getting side-swiped in those parking garages during event nights!) People get so distracted looking for parking spots or looking at light displays that nobody watches the car in front of them. (We always take my truck and park further out near the library side then just walk over to the Waterway to avoid the garage bumper cars.)

- Where do you take out of town family for dinner?
We took my folks to Perry's (not the one in the Pavilion but over by the Lake Woodlands) last month and asked for the corner booth - quieter back there and the server didn't rush us at all. My dad ordered the pork chop which is the size of a softball mitt and my mom got the salmon. It's pricey but the room is nice and they dim the lights enough that it feels like a proper dinner out instead of a cafeteria.

- Bulk landscape supply yard recs around Spring or The Woodlands
I've ordered bulk a few times when we were fixing up the landscaping at the shop (and when we redid the beds at home in Alden Bridge). One thing nobody mentioned yet is to have a plan for rain, if you're ordering topsoil or compost and a storm rolls through before you move it all, that pile turns into a giant muddy brick that's way harder to shovel. We always check the three-day forecast before scheduling delivery. Also make sure your HOA doesn't require a notice for the truck coming in, because some villages around here want a heads-up for commercial vehicles.
