Saw Visit The Woodlands released the official holiday guide. Winter and holiday events around Town Center and the Waterway look solid for November and December. Seasonal markets and light displays are always good. What events are y'all planning on hitting with the kids this season?

Lighting of the Doves at Town Center is usually on our list but the traffic along Six Pines and Woodlands Parkway is brutal every time. I spend half my life stuck in gridlock for work as it is. We usually stick to the seasonal markets around the Waterway instead. My wife likes browsing the vendor booths while I sit on a bench and stay away from the garage crowds.

I always look forward to the holiday guide release every winter. The light displays near Town Center and along the Waterway are really nice for an evening walk after finishing shifts at the clinic. It is helpful having everything grouped together across November and December so we can plan around work schedules early.

Are the markets crowded on Friday nights or better on Saturday afternoon? Trying to avoid total gridlock near Town Center with the kids.

Saturday afternoon is a trap near the Mall and Market Street. You will sit on Lake Robbins Drive for thirty minutes just trying to turn into a garage. Friday right when the vendor booths open is much better. We take the kids early then head back to Panther Creek before the evening traffic hits.

(We always see a massive bump in foot traffic at the restaurant as soon as those Waterway light displays turn on in November.) Last year during the seasonal markets people were waiting over an hour for a table because everyone came straight from the market stroll! (If you are coming down to Town Center for the holiday happenings I always tell my friends to make dinner reservations two weeks ahead or eat super early before heading over to the lights.)

My kids only care about the light displays around the Waterway. But parking anywhere near Town Center in December is pure misery. If you do not park by four in the afternoon you are going to be walking a mile from some overflow lot with cranky kids.

(My wife loves the seasonal markets so we end up dragging the kids out every single year without fail!) As a landscape designer I actually appreciate how well they integrate the temporary light displays into the existing green spaces around the Waterway. (Though I will say some years the foot traffic pathing gets a little chaotic near the water when they put vendor booths too close to the main bridge crossings!)

(Speaking of Town Center traffic during holiday events I had three different customers come into my auto body shop last December after getting side-swiped in those parking garages during event nights!) People get so distracted looking for parking spots or looking at light displays that nobody watches the car in front of them. (We always take my truck and park further out near the library side then just walk over to the Waterway to avoid the garage bumper cars.)
