Retired Exxon engineer. Moved to Carlton Woods after I retired so we could be on the golf course. Still consult a little but mostly play golf or hang at the clubhouse. Gated is nice and Town Center is a short drive for dinner.

- Help, who do ya’ll recommend for squirrel removal services?
Critter One of Houston sent out a very nice technician to our home but unfortunately they don’t offer a warranty for their work that is not cheap. They say they offer “high-quality, professional help” but if it’s actually high quality they would have a warranty on their over priced work. I’d avoid Critter One of Houston.

- Halloween events and trunk-or-treats around The Woodlands this weekend
My wife and I love seeing all the kids in their costumes during the neighborhood gatherings each year. The community celebrations organized across the local parks and public spaces really showcase how family-friendly the community is. If you want to avoid heavy traffic near Town Center, the smaller park events hosted by local groups are a wonderful alternative.

- Has anyone looked into the expanded bachelor degree transfer programs through Lone Star College?
When I was completing my engineering degree decades ago, transferring community college credits was far more fragmented than it is today. Having structured agreements between Lone Star College System and five four-year universities provides clear academic tracks for students right here in Montgomery County. It removes the uncertainty of whether specific lower-level prerequisites will satisfy degree requirements at the destination institution. If your brother-in-law follows the outlined pathway for his chosen field of study, it should be a seamless transition that significantly reduces total education costs.

- Anyone been to the Water Lantern Festival at City Place in Spring?
My wife and I walked over to check out the setup last year while meeting friends for dinner nearby. To answer your question, the entry ticket covers the complete lantern kit along with your decorating supplies and full access to the festival area. They have live music playing on the plaza stage while everyone sits around decorating their lanterns before dusk, which makes for a very relaxed evening.

- Anyone been to Wit at the Woodlands comedy night at the resort?
My wife and I attended one of the comedy performances at The Woodlands Resort recently as well. It was a very pleasant evening. The resort venue handled the seating and flow of the crowd quite efficiently, accommodating both hotel guests and local residents who purchased tickets. If you are looking for live standup entertainment without traveling far from home, I believe you will find it to be a very pleasant date night experience.

- Thanksgiving Day Turkey Trot with Give Me A Break Texas
My wife and I were looking into this same event recently. It seems like a wonderful way for families to participate in a morning fitness activity together on Thanksgiving Day. Knowing that all proceeds and participation support Give Me A Break Texas and their ongoing community programs makes it very worthwhile. We are planning to register for the walk.

- House cleaner recommendations (recurring, every other week)
We have had Maids and Moore for about three years now and they do a solid job. They started with a deep clean when we first moved into Carlton Woods and now come every other week. I am usually at the club when they come but my wife has been very happy with them, especially since we have the same team most visits. They are thorough and respectful of the house.

- Old Mexican restaurant at Sawdust and Budde Road
We used to meet clients from the old Exxon campus there occasionally back in the late nineties when it was still a Mexican place, and I'm drawing a blank on the name too. I do remember the margaritas being pretty solid and the parking lot always being packed on Friday nights. If your husband remembers the porch overhang, that was definitely there back then because we'd sit outside when the weather was decent.
