Outdoor movie night on the lawn for younger kids

My daughter asked if I wanted to take the grandkids out to one of the outdoor movie nights on the lawn. I saw the announcement for Movie on the Lawn showing Dr. Seuss' How the Grinch Stole Christmas as an outdoor holiday movie for families, but the listing did not give specific showtimes or admission details. For those who have taken little ones to these lawn events recently, what is the setup like? Do people bring fold-out camp chairs, or is it strictly blankets on the grass?

(I was walking around the Mall area early last week after doing a shift and saw them setting up for one of those outdoor gatherings...) You definitely want to bring both blankets and low-back folding chairs. If you just sit on the bare grass around sunset, that turf gets surprisingly damp fast (learned that the hard way with my own grandkids a few years back). The Grinch movie will be a hit with the kids though.

Outdoor holiday movie screenings like the Grinch are wonderful for small children because they do not have to sit dead quiet in a dark theater. If they get restless, they can step to the side of the lawn without disturbing the entire audience. Bring a thick quilt with a waterproof backing if you have one. It makes a massive difference once the evening air settles in.

Yes, your kid can start at five.

Thanks for the tips on the damp grass. Does anyone know if entry is completely free or if they charge at the gate? Like I mentioned, the event listing was silent on admission prices and start times.

These community lawn screenings are typically free public admission, though vendors on site will naturally charge for snacks or drinks. From a planning standpoint, it is slightly frustrating when event announcements leave off exact showtimes, but usually the movie starts right around dusk once daylight fades enough for the screen projection to be clear.

    Numbers don't lie, people round.

Outdoor lawn movie nights are a great setup. We usually hit a spot nearby to fill an insulated container with hot chocolate for the kids before heading over to the grass. The Grinch screening is about as classic as it gets for a family evening out during the holidays.

Y'all taking tiny kids to sit on cold damp dirt in December to watch a green monster on a screen when back in my day we watched TV inside by the heater without freezing your rear off but I reckon the young ones won't care once the show starts just bring thick boots so their feet ain't soaked by eight o'clock.

Been here since it was all pines.

(I was doing a parcel run past that area right around sunset a couple weeks ago...) The biggest headache is parking right before the screening starts. If you arrive twenty minutes late trying to find a spot, you will be hauling lawn chairs and heavy blankets across three parking lots with kids in tow. Park early and grab your spot near the middle of the lawn.

Temperature drops quickly once the sun goes down behind the trees. Pack heavier coats than you think you need for sitting still for ninety minutes. Running on the trails keeps you warm, but sitting on a lawn blanket does not.

5 a.m. miles before the humidity wins.

(My wife and I strolled past during one of the seasonal events last winter...) Just keep your stroller parked along the back perimeter edge so it does not block the walking path for folks carrying snacks. Hope your grandkids enjoy the Grinch!
