(I was sitting outside on the patio at my restaurant in Market Street yesterday watching them set up early decor, and it reminded me how wild the crowds got a couple years back.) Are any of you bringing your families to the Market Street in Lights tree lighting this year on November 19? My family is coming over and I know the traffic around Six Pines and Lake Robbins gets completely backed up right before it starts. The 70-foot tree and the light display synchronized to music are always great, but I want to make sure they do not get stuck sitting in the parking garage for an hour after Santa shows up. What time are y'all usually getting there to snag a spot without the headache?

Coming from West Houston back in the day, I used to think Galleria holiday traffic was peak misery, but the gridlock inside the Market Street central ring after the tree lights up gives it a real run for its money. If you try to park directly in the surface lots or the main parking structure right next to the shops, you will be stuck in a line of idling SUVs until midnight.

    Former Katy commuter. Recovered.

Do not even bother pulling into the interior Market Street streets after 4:00 PM. Traffic on Lake Robbins gets gridlocked because everyone waits until twenty minutes before the live music starts to look for a spot. Park on the outer edges and walk over.

Appreciate the heads up. KatyCastaway did you usually park across near the mall garage or somewhere along the Waterway when you walked over?

Park across Six Pines. Use the parking garage by the Waterway. Easy walk across the street. Zero wait to pull out later.

We take our two kids every year for the tree lighting on November 19. The key for us is getting there pretty early in the afternoon. We grab dinner early, let the kids do the family activities, and get set up on the lawn well before Santa arrives to turn on the 25,000 lights. If you leave right after the music ends you beat the worst of the rush out.

    It's always baseball season.

On November 19, 2022, we made the mistake of trying to park inside the main ring at 5:15 PM and spent forty minutes moving three hundred feet. Here is what I do now. 1. Arrive no later than 3:30 PM if you want to park close. 2. Park in the parking garage off Waterway Avenue or the parking structure on the north side of the mall. 3. Walk across Six Pines Drive on foot. 4. Stay until fifteen minutes after the light show ends to let the first wave clear out.

    Measure twice, call once.

(My four-year-old has been talking about seeing Santa and the giant tree all week, so there is zero chance we are skipping it this year.) We went to the Market Street in Lights event last year and seeing that 70-foot tree light up with 25,000 multi-colored lights while the holiday music played was honestly awesome for the kids. We parked near the Waterway garages around 4:00 PM (which gave us plenty of time to stroll over, grab a spot, and check out the live musical performances before the main crowd showed up). Walking five minutes beats sitting in parking lot gridlock every single time.
