Conversation overview

A neighbor sought a certified arborist to assess a 60 foot tall, leaning loblolly pine. Other neighbors recommended getting multiple quotes from insured professionals, with Highpoint Tree Care being the most frequently suggested company.

Top recommendation: Highpoint Tree Care

  • They have certified arborists on staff who can provide an honest opinion.
  • They have been in business for over 20 years.
  • Neighbors who used them for a big oak removal called them professionals.
  • They also perform stump grinding in the same trip as a removal.

We have a loblolly pine at the back of our lot that has started to lean toward the fence line, and the soil on the far side is heaving a bit. It is about 60 feet tall. I am looking for a certified arborist who can tell me honestly whether it needs to come down or can be braced.

Do not feed the deer. Please.

Highpoint Tree Care sounds like what you need. They have certified arborists on staff who can give you an honest opinion on whether it can be saved with cabling or not. We used them for a big oak removal and they were pros. They've been in business for over 20 years.

    Measure twice, call once.

Definitely get a couple of quotes. We had good luck with Texas Tree Elite when a storm damaged one of our trees. They are fully insured, which I would absolutely insist on for a big job near a fence line. Whatever you decide, make sure you get the recommendation in writing from the arborist.

"Section 4.2 is pretty clear on this."

I forgot to mention, when Highpoint took our tree down they also did the stump grinding in the same trip. Made the cleanup much easier.

    Measure twice, call once.

Another name you could try is Boone's Landscaping. They do a lot of work in The Woodlands and have been around for a while. We used them for some hardscaping and were really happy. Not sure about huge tree removal but might be worth a call to get another estimate. Their number is (936) 206-7627.

45 South at 6:10am. Every day. Pray for me.

I'd second Highpoint Tree Care, we had them look at a couple of older pines near our house in Panther Creek about three years ago (one was starting to lean after that wet spring we had). They sent out an actual certified arborist who walked the property with me and explained what was going on with the root system. Ended up taking one down but saved the other with cabling, and both calls were the right ones. They're not the cheapest but they know what they're doing.
