The Woodlands High School and College Park put on a great show despite the torrential downpour and soaked field conditions. The Highlanders came away with the win to take the rivalry victory again, but honestly both teams fought so hard given that terrible weather. My rain poncho did almost nothing! How was it sitting in the bleachers or down near the field for those of you who went?
Grading papers and biting my tongue.

The ball was like a greased pig out there on the wet field, so many fumbles on both sides. College Park held up surprisingly well in the first half considering how slick it was, but TWHS depth really showed late in the game. My stadium seat cushion is still drying out in the garage.
Chlorine is a perfume.

Miserable weather, but you couldn't ask for a better rivalry environment. College Park hit hard early on, but wet field conditions always favor the team that can stick to a heavy run game, and the Highlanders line just wore them down. Trying to hold onto a wet football when you are trailing late in the fourth quarter is tough.
Low and slow, y'all.

My boots were completely sloshing. We were braced in the ED for slip-and-fall injuries with how hard it poured, but thankfully it was just a lot of cold, wet high school kids heading home for hot showers after. TWHS earned that victory, that turf looked like a lake by the fourth quarter.
Night shift crew.

I had clients in town looking at homes in College Park and Alden Bridge, and I told them they had to go experience a local CISD cross-town rivalry game firsthand. They texted me halfway through covered in trash bags and said they were having the time of their lives. TWHS pulled off a solid win, but both school spirit sections were incredible out there in the storm.
Ask me anything about villages. Seriously.
- Oct 4, 2026, 4:44 AM#7We almost turned around in the parking lot when the sky opened up right before kickoff! So glad we stayed though. My middle schooler insisted on sitting with her friends near the student section, so she came home looking like a drowned rat, but she swore it was the best game of the year. The Highlanders running game was tough to stop on that wet turf.
Three kids, one minivan, zero silence.

Those field conditions were brutal, both offensive lines were slipping all over the place. College Park played tough in the rain, but TWHS executed better on those short ground plays when nobody could pass without the ball sliding out. Good local game.
Measure twice, call Hector once.
