- Oct 16, 2026, 10:09 PM#1My wife saw a flyer online for a corgi racing event happening over at Kirby Ice House. Sounds like it is an outdoor fundraiser for BARC Houston to help out with their animal rescue efforts while people hang on the patio. Has anyone gone to this before? We were thinking about driving over to meet some friends for a couple of hours in the afternoon, but I wanted to see if anyone knows how crowded it gets or if it is worth heading over.

Kirby Ice House has a huge outdoor yard and patio space, but on event days the parking lot fills up ridiculously fast. If you are planning to go, I would figure out where you are parking beforehand because people start lining up along Six Pines early. It is for BARC Houston, so at least the patio crowd is paying into a good cause for animal rescues.

We went to an event on their patio last fall and had a blast. Seeing a bunch of low-riders sprinting across the grass sounds pretty entertaining. Just keep in mind it gets pretty packed around the fence line where they set up the little racetrack, so if you want a clear view of the dogs you will want to get there a little early and grab a spot near the perimeter.

If you do not get a spot in their main lot within twenty minutes of doors opening, you are going to be circling or walking from across the street. Fun venue for drinking a beer on the patio, but expect wall-to-wall people around the grass area once the corgi heats start.

- Oct 17, 2026, 1:43 AM#6I checked into this earlier since a few clinic coworkers mentioned going after shifts. There is no cover charge to get onto the patio, but they do accept direct donations for BARC Houston at the entrance and near the race area. BARC usually brings out a couple of adoptable dogs or informational tables to support their rescue operations too. It is a neat setup for an outdoor cause.
- Oct 17, 2026, 4:03 AM#7We checked out a similar dog event there last year (my wife loved seeing all the low-riders running around). As a landscape design guy, I always appreciate how well Kirby laid out that massive turf lawn area behind the patio, but when you cram a few hundred people around a twenty-yard stretch of turf, visibility gets tough. My advice is to grab a table on the covered deck right by the step-down if you can snag one, so you are elevated slightly above the crowd standing along the grass.
- Oct 17, 2026, 5:05 AM#8Just a heads up on the crowd, Kirby Ice House is strictly 21 and up at all times. I know people see dog races and think it is a family afternoon out, but security at the front door checks IDs for every single person entering. Do not haul any under-21 family members over there thinking they can watch the dogs run or you will end up turning right around in the parking lot.
- Oct 17, 2026, 6:55 AM#9That is a great callout on the age limit. A guy at our fire station made that mistake last year and had to turn around because he had his daughter with him. If it is just adults going, it is a fun afternoon on the patio. The money raised for BARC Houston goes toward their shelter and medical care for rescues across the area, so even if the corgi races are total chaos, it goes to a solid foundation.
