Moving up from Houston with a one year old son and picking the right village

My daughter and her husband (they are 29 and 30 with a one-year-old boy) are starting to look at moving up here from Houston. They want to get away from the crime down there and settle in a safer, family-focused area where kids actually play outside and neighbors actually talk to each other. They like going out for dinner and shopping (nothing crazy on nightlife, just an occasional date night option), but their main concern is finding a good village with great schools and parks. She also admitted she is a little worried about making friends and finding mom groups since they do not know many people in Montgomery County yet. For those of you who raised toddlers here or moved in recently, how easy was it to build that community, and which villages would you point them toward?

We moved into Cochran's Crossing a couple years ago with our toddler. Meeting people is not hard if you actually leave your house, but traffic getting near Market Street or the Mall on Saturday afternoon will make you question your life choices. The greenbelt trails right behind the houses are great for daily stroller walks. I drop our kid at daycare, walk the path behind our house, and head to Market Street for coffee when I need to get out of the home office. Cochran's Crossing is central, quiet, and you are not stuck driving twenty minutes across town just to buy groceries.

We moved to Creekside Park a few years back for the newer home layouts and being right next to the George Mitchell Nature Preserve lol. If she wants young families with little kids playing outside, Creekside is packed with them. We spend half our summer afternoons at the Rob Fleming Aquatic Center or walking the trails heading down toward Spring Creek. Just make sure she knows Creekside Park is down in Harris County and Tomball ISD, not Conroe ISD like the older villages, so taxes and school district boundaries are slightly different.

I would take Grogan's Mill over the newer edges any day. You get the huge mature trees, solid lot sizes, and you are five minutes from Town Center for date night without dealing with the nightmare parking on Woodlands Parkway during rush hour. We drop the kids at the elementary here and head over to the Woodlands Country Club pool on weekends. People think the older villages are all retirees, but young families are moving back in constantly to update the original 70s and 80s homes.

From someone in their late 20s living in Town Center, tell her not to stress about nightlife or dining out. Everything around Market Street and the Waterway is easy to access, though weekend parking by the Mall is an absolute dumpster fire. If they want walking distance to restaurants, Town Center or East Shore work, but for a one-year-old needing a yard and kids on bikes, Cochran's Crossing or Panther Creek make way more sense.
